Three Leg Stool by Kazunori Kochi

kochi_stools.jpg

After 5-year-experiment, this three-leg-stool was created by a craftman, Kazunori Kochi. The finish is planed by hand, as well as the poles for legs! Because of the positioning of the three legs this stool can be placed right against a wall and use a pedestal too. Two colors are available, natural or black. This black finish called "Bengara" which is traditional finish in Japan for shrines and temples because of the character of resistance to sunlight, air and heat. It is not paint but earth pigment which main ingredient is iron oxide, Fe2O3. The seat looks so thin and delicate but the edges are carved out of 1-3/4" thickness ash to make it so.

elephant.jpg

elephant_blue.jpg

This is a vintage stool designed by Sori Yanagi in 1954 and the material is FRP (Fiber REinforced Plastic) which he was infulenced to use the material by Charles and Ray Eames.

This stool was reproduced in 2001 by Habitat (UK) and in 2004  Vitra Design Museum (US) reproduced this stool.

Because it was originally made for outdoor use, it is difficult to find the original one in good condition. We have two stools in ivory and two light blue now (as of April 28th) and both have scratches.

If you are interested in these stools and want to see more images for details, please contact us.

Eiffel Stool by Shigeki Fujishiro

eiffel2.jpg

Shigeki Fujishiro is the artist who exhibited his mobiles, "FRAMES" at our store in June 2008.

quote from his website:
A "three-legged stool" is considered most suitable while at work.
The reason being the worker can freely move their own legs while sitting.
With the concept of "form by means of tools = shape from function", this stool is designed in a minimal manner so the structure itself becomes form.
Material is made from a special paper developed in Europe, that consist of pure pulp and recycled paper. This material is prominent by means of durability, flexibility, weight, pliability, and insulation.
Very earth-friendly material as excess during process can be recycled.

Trussing of the legs has intensified the strength to a point where the "paper" is no longer felt.
"eiffel" is of course named after the towering steel-structured masterpiece.
